By Christal Valdez, Computer Science, Economics Major, Mentor Heidi Honegger Rogers.  Chemical pollution, particularly forever chemicals, pose an extreme threat to the planet and, consequently, human health. These pollutants contribute to a wide range of issues, including increased cancer risk, reproductive problems, neurological disorders, and respiratory issues. Nurses are in a position where they have the power to impact climate change significantly. Through a collective effort, nurses can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a healthier future for people and the planet. However, for this power to be enabled, nurses must be given the information and resources needed to understand the detrimental effects chemical pollution has on human health and be aware of what actions they can take to help heal the planet. My communication project will support this effort by contributing to the Nurses Drawdown website, which serves as a resource to cultivate understanding and empower nurses to join the movement against climate change. This website ensures a free and easy-to-use platform that can chart a path toward an improved healthcare system and environment. Given that vulnerable populations, such as children, pregnant women, and low-income communities, feel the heaviest burden of exposure, this project plays a crucial role in promoting environmental health equity. While the impacts of chemical pollution continue to cause harm, this project will help equip nurses with the knowledge and tools necessary to take meaningful action against its influence and presence. By empowering nurses to lead the fight against climate change, this initiative contributes to a healthier, more just future for both people and the planet
